Understanding of MRI Improved for Reading Internal Body Temperatures

Hyperthermia is a method of treating cancer.  It uses focused heat to destroy tumors.  Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to assess internal body temperature changes from cancer treatment.  Researchers have found a new way to measure temperature changes in the body with MRI that is 10 times more accurate than traditional methods.

While conducting the study,  Duke researchers actually rewrote the theory of MRI imaging.  They discovered a new found appreciation for how MRI works which allowed them to improve interpretation methods for internal body temperature.  These improvements allow doctors to precisely measure temperature changes that take place in the body during cancer treatments.
