Dr. Hazem Chehabi has dedicated his career to diagnostic medical imaging and nuclear medicine, with an expertise in cardiac and brain imaging, and special interests in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and bone densitometry.
In 1991, Dr. Chehabi founded Newport Diagnostic Center (NDC) to provide high quality nuclear medicine, cardiac testing, bone densitometry and PET imaging in an outpatient setting. Three years later, he recognized a need within the community for a comprehensive, state-of-the-art medical imaging facility that patients and physicians could rely on for all of their diagnostic imaging needs. In 1994, he relocated NDC to 1605 Avocado in Newport Beach, expanding the services offered to include a full-service radiology department and stereotactic radiosurgery services. In 1996, he founded Newport Diagnostic Radiology, a professional group comprised of highly trained, board-certified physicians with interrelated areas of expertise.
Dr. Chehabi has extensive medical education and experience. He graduated from the University of Damascus Medical School in Syria and completed a post doctoral brain imaging fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center, in Dallas, where he also accepted a faculty position. He completed his internship at St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center in San Francisco, followed by a first year residency in nuclear medicine at Wadsworth VA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He completed his second year of residency and a fellowship in cardiac imaging at the University of California, San Francisco. Prior to founding NDC, Dr. Chehabi worked at Hoag Hospital, Department of Nuclear Medicine, in Newport Beach.
Dr. Chehabi is board certified in nuclear medicine and serves as assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Irvine, Department of Radiological Sciences. He is a member of numerous medical societies, including the American Medical Association, Society of Nuclear Medicine, American College of Nuclear Physicians and the California and Orange County Medical Associations. Dr. Chehabi has been published in the major specialty journals, including the Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Nuclear Medicine. An in-demand speaker, he frequently presents at medical conferences.
He resides with his wife and children in Laguna Beach, California.
